Michelangelo:
Moses' statue
Inside St. Peter in Chains (S. Pietro in Vincoli)
A masterpiece that impressed Michelangelo himself (he threw the hammer against it crying
"Why don't you speak?") and mesmerised S. Frued, who wrote an essay trying to
understand Moses' severe expression.
Take Metro B and get off at Cavour or Colosseo.
Also bus 27 from Termini. If you arrive from Cavour, you should have
normally climbed the stairs under the balcony of Lucrezia Borgia. Presently it is closed
for repair, so you have to walk a little towards Termini and take the first large flight
of stairs. When you arrive in Via delle Sette Sale, turn right until you reach the little
square with the church. If you climb from the Coliseum, at the second curve take the
little streets to the right until you reach the square.
Pieta'
Michelangelo when he was 25 y.o. created out of stone something that even Mother Nature
cannot do. See with your own eyes.
St. Peters Basilica, from dawn to sunset. Metro A: Ottaviano, Buses
64, 62, 492.
Christ
St. Maria Sopra Minerva in Piazza della Minerva. From dawn to sunset with a lunch break.
Near the Pantheon.
Take bus 64 to Largo Argentina, then walk towards the Pantheon.
You recognize the church as there is in front the elephant with the obelisk, a masterpiece
of Bernini. In the Church there lies the body of St. Catherine. After her death, the head
was separated from the body and it remained in Siena, the town where she was born.
Capitoline Hill (Campidoglio)
Michelangelo was also a genial architect, and designed the square and steps with unique
beauty.
The Dome of St Peter's
Michelangelo could not see the dome finished, as he made only the model. The latter can be
seen in the Vatican Museums. His dome had a more spherical shape than the actual one.

Villa Borghese - The most ancient park in Europe. It belonged first
to the Roman poet Lucullus. It was owned later by the Pinci family, by Cardinal Scipio
Borghese, and finally by the Kings of Italy who donated it to the townhall of Rome.
A beautiful park with avenues of trees, with characteristic little houses, a lake with a
little island with a Greek temple in its middle, a horse training field, an olympic horse
stadium, and finally the Borghese Museum. In the "Pincio" sector of the park (it
is that large part near Piazza del Popolo) there is a terrace (Piazzale Napoleone I),
where you have a romantic view of all Rome. The best time to visit is sunset, with the
roofs, the domes and the belfries shimmering in the sun. To go there you can take the
metro A and get of at Spagna or Flaminio, and then walk. You can also take bus 490 and 495
from Tiburtina station, which arrive right in the middle of the park.
